Methodology
DebrisPilot calculators are designed as planning tools rather than engineering estimates. Each calculator uses a stated formula, user-entered values, published planning factors, or a combination of those inputs.
Source principles
- Prefer government agencies, public studies and major service-provider documentation when available.
- Show important factors and assumptions on the calculator page.
- Avoid presenting nominal dumpster volume as a guaranteed safe carrying capacity.
- Use user-entered contract terms for fee calculators rather than pretending one provider's fees are universal.
Examples
The demolition calculator uses published building-type generation benchmarks and a mixed construction-and-demolition debris density factor. The roofing calculator uses asphalt-shingle weight assumptions and a measured volume-to-weight factor. The debris weight calculator uses material-specific volume-to-weight factors. The pickup-load calculator uses truck-bed geometry rather than assuming every pickup holds the same volume.
Rounding
Results may be rounded for readability. Small differences can therefore appear when manually reproducing calculations with unrounded intermediate values.
Uncertainty
Real debris quantities can vary because of construction method, material mix, moisture, compaction, salvage, contamination, loading method and many other project-specific conditions. A calculated result should be treated as a starting estimate, not a guaranteed final quantity.
